I read the original addition of this book called “It Came From Within” several years ago, but at the time I do not think I was really ready to hear what Andy was teaching.
However, now some five years later and at a different stage in life, my eyes were opened to several issues I personally had to address.
In Enemies of the Heart, Andy doesn’t sugar coat the fact, we have to look within at four major emotions which when left to their own control will cause us to self-sabotage every area of our lives.
Andy sums it up like this…
Guilt: I owe you
Anger: You owe me
Greed: I owe me
Jealousy: God owes me
Now, just understanding how I had allowed these four emotions to get out of control and take charge of my life was a breakthrough. However, to continue reading and learning how to take control and eliminate the influence I was allowing, was priceless as I continued to read.
I am not going to spoil this great book for you. All I am going to say, is as someone who has read every book Andy has written, this may very well be the best of the bunch for personal growth.
And for those of you who are wondering… “I thought LUST would be one of the four Enemies of the Heart, well then you really have to read the chapter “Where Does Lust Fit In.” Talk about thought provoking!
What if I were to ask… Could God have created Lust to be a good thing?

Hello Troy.
I want to take a few minutes to share my thoughts with you regarding this review. Five years ago I first stepped into Northpoint Community Church in Alpharetta GA and knew immediately that that would be my home Church for life. Andy Stanely is an amazing leader, speaker, and author. I have read this book when it first came out, I also recommend listening to his message he delivered on the same subject.
I certainly can relate to what you said, I was not ready to receive the entire message but when life hits you in the face with some bad choices or twists and turns in the road.. you certainly get a wake up call. The is definitely a must read for all people, to truly realize what matters most and how to wrestle with the beast within.
I very much enjoy your radio and video blog, and look forward to seeing you at the top one day as well.
