What motivates your desire to own a home-based business?

When you read the story above, you realize that they were not just going to build a skyscraper; they were planning to build the World’s Largest skyscraper. However, the challenge they faced was that their foundational purpose for creating the skyscraper’s foundation lay only on their massive egos: “Let us make a name for ourselves…”

If your main reason for owning a home-based business is to boost your ego, then the first challenge you face will likely cause your business to collapse. It’s important to be honest with yourself and ask some critical questions: How fragile is my ego? How do I handle failure or rejection? We often dream of paying off debt, achieving financial independence, enjoying time freedom, and taking vacations like the rich and famous. However, when we face rejections, experience a lack of sales, have team members quit, or see the company we represent go out of business, our egos can be severely damaged. Unfortunately, many well-known influencers, networkers, CEOs, founders, athletes, and politicians have built their careers on two flawed foundations: the desire for wealth and fame. If you find yourself in this category, often referred to as ‘The Main,’ it’s essential to reflect on these motivations.

Main Street Entrepreneur” who desires to be a successful businessperson based on the standards found in the Bible, must build on something more enduring than your EGO!

As Jesus said: “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house (Business) on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house (Business) on the sand. Building your personal or business life around your ego is like constructing on shifting sand; I know this firsthand. For 39 years, my ego fueled both my success and, more so, my failure. It led me to experience not just one but two bankruptcies. My ego strained my marriage and nearly destroyed my relationships with my children. It prevented me from accepting responsibility, as I always pointed fingers at others or blamed circumstances for why our dreams turned into nightmares.

The person who builds a business but ignores the standards found in the Bible, the standards Jesus taught, will never fully see or feel their ambitions come true. If your ego drives your purpose, you will always find blame in others and never get to the real root of the problem – YOU!

None of what I wrote may make sense unless you are a faith-based home business owner. However, I challenge you to dig deep and be honest with yourself.
